Etymologie
Amblyglyphidodon : du Grec, amblys ou amblus = émoussé, usé (en parlant d'une lame) + du Grec, glyphis = tailler, sculpter + du Grec, odous = dent.
Biologie
Suivant les biotopes qu'elle fréquente, cette espèce lagonaire possède deux livrées. Les individus vivant dans les coraux du lagon sont caractérisés par des nageoires ventrales et anales jaune plus ou moins vif. La deuxièmes livrée est très proche de celle de Amblyglyphidodon leucogaster (Bleeker, 1847) mais elle diffère néanmoins par une tache operculaire beaucoup plus petite et un liseré aux bageoires postérieures nettement moins visible.

Dorsal spines (total): 8; Dorsal soft rays (total): 12-13; Anal spines: 2; Anal soft rays: 12-14; Pectoral rays: 17; Tubed lateral-line scales: 14-17 (modally: 15-16); Total gill rakers: 28-31; Scaled suborbital; Body depth: 1.6-1.7 in SL. Max. length: 8.3 cm SL. Depth range: 2 - 30 m.
Color
Coloration of head and nape grey, body silvery white, suffused with yellow, becoming more yellow ventrally and posteriorly; Dorsal fin is grey without black markings; Anal and pelvic fins are yellow to yellowish grey; Caudal fin have whitish rays and transparent membranes, the upper and lower edges are narrowly black to blackish; Upper edge of pectoral fin base with a very small black spot.
Etymology
Amblyglyphidodon: from Greek, amblys or amblus = dull (blade: not sharp), blunt, obtuse + from Greek, glyphis = carved + from Greek, odous = teeth.
orbicularis: from Latin, orbis = circle, circular or disc-shaped.
Original description: Glyphisodon orbicularis Hombron & Jacquinot, 1853 - Type locality: no locality (probably Fiji or Samoa).
Distribution
Southwestern Pacific: New Caledonia east to Samoa and Tonga.
Biology
Oviparous, distinct pairing during breeding. Eggs are demersal and adhere to the substrate. Males guard and aerate the eggs.

Amblyglyphidodon silolona (Allen, Erdmann & Drew, 2012) - Reported from northeastern Indian Ocean: Andaman Islands. It differs in having yellow on the dorsal fin and fewer gill rakers (22-26 vs. 28-31).
