The Musandam Peninsula covers an area of 1,800 square km (695 sq mi) and a population of only 31,425 people that are mainly split between the two main urban centres of Khasab and Dibba. The Musandam coastline is the lungs of the Gulf and home to a rich biodiversity and unique ecosystem. The coral found here is amongst the most healthy coral to be found anywhere in the Indian Ocean. Stong nutrient rich currents and upwelling sustains this environment with staggering effect - drawing in vast numbers of pelagic species ranging from sharks, fishes and cetaceans.
