Description
Épines dorsales (Total) : 13; Rayons mous dorsaux (Total) : 14-15; Épines anales : 2; Rayons mous anaux : 14-15. Les juvéniles de Pomacentrus adelus sont gris avec un marquage bleu sur la tête et l'ocelle qui orne la fin de la nageoire dorsale est également bleutée. Les adultes sont beaucoup moins attrayants et sont d'une couleur sombre. Taille maximum : 8.5 cm TL. Zone de profondeur : 2 - 8 m.

Pomacentrus : du Grec, poma ou pomatos = opercule, couvercle + du Grec, kentron = aiguille, épine.
adelus : du Grec, adelos = Non manifesté, indistinct, incertain, obscur, confus.
Description originale : Pomacentrus adelus Allen, 1991 - Localité type : Récif de l'île Ashmore (territoire extérieur de l'Australie qui se situe dans l'Océan Indien à 320 km de la côte nord-ouest de l'Australie et à 170 km au sud de l'île de Roti (Indonésie) - Mer de Timor.
Distribution
Océan Pacifique ouest, de la Thaïlande Est aux îles Vanuatu, au nord des Philippines, Australie, et au sud de la Nouvelle-Calédonie.
Biologie
La Demoiselle Obscure se rencontre sur les récifs frangeants, dans les lagons isolés des récifs, ou sur la face extérieure des récifs à faible profondeur.

Suborbital naked, with serrate ventral margin. Teeth on jaws biserial, incisor-like. Caudal fin emarginate; no conspicuous projecting spine-like rays at upper and lower edges of caudal-fin base. Max length: 8.5 cm TL. Depth range: 2 - 8 m.
Color
Head, body and fins blackish brown, sometimes with ocellated spot on posterior part of dorsal fin; juvenile bluish, with some blue lines on head, numerous blue dots on head and body, and sky-edged black ocellus on posterior part of dorsal fin.

Distribution
Western Pacific: Andaman Sea to Vanuatu, north to the Philippines, south to northern Australia, New Caledonia and Tonga.
Biology
Adults inhabit lagoon, coastal and seaward reefs, usually on open rubble patches. Oviparous, distinct pairing during breeding. Eggs are demersal and adhere to the substrate. Males guard and aerate the eggs.

An elongate black patch with narrow blue margin is between 1st and 4th dorsal spines. The pectoral fins are translucent with a suffusion of yellow. A small black spot is at the base of the uppermost rays of the pectoral fin.
