POLICE BRASS DEPARTMENT
The idea of creating the Abu Dhabi Police Brass Band was triggered by our deep belief in the importance of developing work and military training. The Abu Dhabi Police Brass Band was established in 1963, in other words, before the federation of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was founded in 1969. Being the first brass band in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, the Abu Dhabi Police Brass Band began with 50 members. In the early seventies the number had increased to 70. In 1980, marking the boom era in the UAE, H. H Sheikh Mubarak bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, the then Minister of Interior, issued a resolution stipulating the creation of a new department under the name ‘Police Brass Department’.
In 1981, H.E Hmouda bin Ali, State Minister for Interior Affairs, issued a decree ordering linking the Police Brass Department, Medical Services Department and Forensic Laboratory Department with the General Directorate of Abu Dhabi Police. In 2004, the Abu Dhabi Police Brass Band jointed the Police Schools Department. Stages of evolution continued as new instruments were introduced, the number of band members was increased, and foreign experts provided training. Currently the band has 173 members.
